With the launch of icesupp around the corner, I'd like to take this opportunity to share why my Dad’s battle with bowel cancer inspired a change to try and help millions of families.
In 2016, our lives took an unexpected turn when my dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer. As a family, we witnessed firsthand the struggles he faced to build and maintain his weight during treatment. It was during this time that our mission began to take shape, inspired by Dad.
Dad found it difficult to consume a conventional diet, as do many other cancer patients. He had little appetite for thick, sickly meal supplements which made it really hard to keep on the weight he needed.
However, he discovered solace in ice lollies. They provided soothing relief and were effortless to eat. This sparked an idea and ignited a passion within us to try and help other families in the same situation as ours.
Disappointed with the available options of high-calorie, nutritious drinks and refreshments, we knew there had to be a better solution. We embarked on a mission to create something truly unique – a product that combined the goodness of nutrition with the refreshing experience of ice lollies. And then, icesupp was born.
Over the past two years, our team has poured our hearts and souls into refining the concept and developing icesupp. We knew that to make a real impact, our meal supplements had to be natural and refreshing, offering a palatable experience like no other, so we collaborated with experts at Reading University Food Science to create our enticing lemon and lime prototype.
Throughout this journey, we've encountered challenges and triumphs. We gained valuable insights and guidance from organisations like #EIT and #CRUKHorizons. We immersed ourselves in the world of nutrition, meal supplements, and FSMP to ensure that icesupp will make a significant difference in the lives of those who need it most.
We are filled with gratitude for the opportunity to bring icesupp to life. Our ultimate goal is to help families like our own who have experienced the devastating effects of dramatic weight loss. It spurs us on every day to know just how much it would’ve helped Dad and can help those in the same situation.
